STUDENT PUPPY RAISER -
*Currently open to students at UNC-Chapel Hill
ABOUT:
Our Puppy Raisers play a critical role in the future of a service dog. Beyond caring for a puppy, you are helping to shape a task-trained service dog who will one day provide independence and support to a child navigating complex medical needs. Our raisers provide daily care, foundational and disability-specific training, and consistent exposure to unique environments. Through this process, you are directly contributing to a life-changing partnership and making a meaningful difference!
REQUIREMENTS:
Current UNC Student (Grad students also welcome!)
Reside in an off-campus apartment/house
Ability to commit to the duration of the scheduled term
Some experience encouraged …but not required!
Willingness to learn and follow training protocols consistently
Stable and safe living environment
Supportive roommates (Agreement forms are required)
No conflicting pet situations
RESPONSIBILITIES & CONSIDERATIONS:
Puppy Raisers are responsible for day-to-day care, training, and development. This is all supported by ongoing guidance and support from the Lux’s Purpose team and trainers. Detailed expectations are covered thoroughly in the interview process, and we provide training for all of our raisers. Being a puppy raiser is a full-time role, and you will have access to a network of coverage support (approved sitters and team assistance).
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about our cause, responsible, reliable, and committed. An ideal puppy raiser is patient, observant, and has a strong willingness to learn. This role is best suited for those who are able to maintain the consistency and structure that a service dog in training needs, and are excited to be a part of the rewarding experience that the experience offers.
We sincerely appreciate your interest and look forward to getting to know you. We receive a large number of applicants, but we are very intentional in our selection as we find the best matches to support the needs of our future heroes!

-Selected applicants will be invited to complete a full application and move forward with the application process. This will involve elements such as interviews and hands-on evaluations to ensure successful placement.
STUDENT PUPPY SITTER -
*Currently open to students at UNC-Chapel Hill
Puppy sitters are our “support system” for our raisers. We have a registry of approved sitters available for our raisers to choose from when they need care for the pup they are matched with!

-Selected applicants will be provided with an orientation and added to our approved sitter registry.
FAMILY PUPPY RAISERS & SITTERS -
*Currently open to families/individuals in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro areas

Beyond caring for a puppy, you are helping to shape a task-trained service dog who will one day provide independence and support to a child navigating complex medical needs. Our raisers and sitters help to provide daily care, foundational and disability-specific training, and consistent exposure to unique environments. Through this process, you are directly contributing to a life-changing partnership and making a meaningful difference!
We also have more short-term sitting opportunities available. This position would entail providing support when needed for our family or student raisers, welcoming one of our Lux Pups into your home & your heart when care is needed! Sitters are not expected to implement training.
REQUIREMENTS:
Volunteer position as a host family (or student with support of family)
Reside near Chapel Hill/Carrboro area
Short and long-term positions available
Flexible schedules preferred
Some experience encouraged …but not required!

Any pets in the home are dog-friendly!
